How to Get The Monarch Legendary Assault Rifle in Borderlands 3

As stated, the main part of obtaining The Monarch requires that you be on Mayhem 6, which is a hard thing to ask. Even if in the previous system you could handle Mayhem 4, this is slightly different.

First off, weapons (not shields or grenades) decrease in stats from Mayhem level to Mayhem level. This means it might take a little farming on earlier levels up to 6 for good enough weapons.

Killavolt drops The Monarch but only on Mayhem 6 –he’s located in Lectra City. It is recommended to farm Killavolt on an earlier Mayhem level or none until he drops the Transformer shield which entirely negates shock damage.

For more help fine-tuning your strategy, Twinfinite has a guide on how to defeat Killavolt.

Stats and Perks

The Monarch Legendary Assault Rifle

The Monarch is quite similar to fellow Vladof assault rifle, The Dictator, if you are familiar with it. The Monarch fires a wide pattern of bullets in an almost square shape, but when you use the bi-pod, more bullets are then fired but in a tighter, more focused shape which vastly increases damage.

This new cone of bullets is an excellent way to melt enemies. Couple all of this with the Vladof’s penchant for producing bullet-hose guns, and The Monarch is just about unstoppable.

Time needed: 10 minutes

To summarize where to get The Monarch:

  1. Kill Killavolt in Lectra City on Mayhem 6.

  2. It is recommended you farm him on an earlier Mayhem level for the Transformer shield. It makes this fight much less frustrating.

  3. Refer to Twinfinite’s Killavolt guide for help getting his patterns down.

  4. It is recommended you farm at least Mayhem 4 for guns strong enough.

There you have it, how to get The Monarch Legendary Assault Rifle in Borderlands 3.
