When building your team of Temtem it’s important to create a balanced team. Your starter is one of the most important decisions you’ll make early on in the game and could impact your decision to start a new game. Luckily, you have us to help you make that oh-so-important decision of who your first Temtem will be. Here’s everything you need to know to decide which starter you should choose in Temtem.
Which Starter You Should Choose in Temtem
Since the game is nearly one week old at this point it would be pretty foolish to declare any starter as the undisputed best choice. Instead, we’ll focus on the pros and cons of each and let you decide what’s best for you.
Houchic (Mental-type)
Houchic is a great option to get you an early leg up on the competition. So many of the first Temtem you face in the wild and battles are Neutral-types that are weak against Mental-type moves. It also hits the Melee-type starter, Smazee, with x2 damage.
Unfortunately, Houchic won’t give you a huge advantage at any of the Dojos, but the attacks it learns are some of the most powerful ones in the game. It’s also the best starter in Temtem in terms of speed and special attack.
Better yet, Houchic is an adorably tiny purple creature that is pretty much the Temtem version of baby Yoda. It has very strong mental powers but it’s lacking in terms of physical defense.
Overall, Houchic seems to be a bit of a glass cannon with its high special attack and low physical defense. Paired with the right Temtem, Houchic can be one of the most dangerous attackers in the game.
Crystle (Crystal-type)
This cute seafoam green crystalline creature is one tanky little monster. The simple design of this turtle is perfect for an introduction to the world of Temtem and its bright shade of green makes Crystle stand out without being garish.
Crystle can hit Electric- and Mental-type Temtem with x2 damage, so that means this little beast has a big advantage against the starter Houchic. Alternatively, you’ll want to keep Crystle out of the way when it comes to Fire, Earth and Melee attacks.
Just like Houchic, Crystle doesn’t have any inherent advantages against the current lineup of Dojos. However, that shouldn’t matter since this Temtem is bulky enough to survive almost any battle.
With the highest HP stat among starters and the highest physical defense, there’s no doubt that this little tank is a reliable survivor. It doesn’t cover its weaknesses well, but it’s strong enough to run over almost any opponent.
Smazee (Melee-type)
Last but not least is the spirited simian, Smazee. This Melee-type Temtem has fluffy orange fur and even though it looks so happy and playful, this little creature sure packs a punch.
Smazee won’t survive long against Mental- and Digital-types, so keep it away from Houchic. On the other hand, it’ll blow away Earth- and Crystal-types. That means it’s perfect for taking on Crystle.
Smazee isn’t the fastest of the starter Temtem, but it’s not a slouch by any means. This fluffy monkey is certainly fast and strong enough to hold its own as the muscle of your team with the best attack stat of any starter.
This should help you roll over most regular tamers and one of the Dojos we know of so far. The only drawback is that Smazee doesn’t learn very powerful Melee-type moves later on, but it has stat-boosting techniques that can help to make up for those shortcomings.
It’s not going to be an easy choice, but at least there’s a starter for everyone. Houchic is a fast special attacking expert, Crystle is an absolute tank and Smazee is a hard-hitting physical attacker.
