As the Warrior of Light, it’s your job to protect Eorzea at all costs. But, as always, you’ll have some downtime in between the main story patches, and you can use that time to do some other stuff instead, like fishing. Here’s how to get the Letter Puffer in FFXIV.
How to Get Letter Puffer in FFXIV
The Letter Puffer is a type of fish available in FFXIV, and was introduced with the Heavensward expansion a few years back. It can be used for cooking, selling, supply and provisioning quests, and is also a required item in the quest One Man’s Fish Is Another Man’s Poison.
It is possible to just look it up on the market board and buy it off other players, but if you want to get it yourself, you’ll need to put in a bit of work. For starters, you need to level the Fisher job up to level 54 at the very least.
To get the Letter Puffer, you’ll want to head to the Landlord Colony fishing hole at the Dravania – Churning Mists, Moghome area (X: 29, Y: 25). In addition to that, you’ll also need to have the Giant Crane Fly bait, which can be bought from the provisioners in Ishgard.
Cast your line into the fishing hole, and wait for a Sky Faerie to bite. In order to get the Letter Puffer, you need to use the Mooch action, which only triggers when you manage to catch a HQ fish, and toss it back in for a chance of catching a better fish.
In this case, you need to get a HQ Sky Faerie, then use the Mooch action to try to get the Letter Puffer. If you’re hoping to get a HQ Letter Puffer, this process will likely take a bit more time.
Alternatively, once you hit level 60 with your Fisher, you’ll be able to purchase the Giant Crane Fly bait from the scrip exchange NPCs, which allow you to catch a Letter Puffer directly.
