The Outer Worlds is filled with different side quests and tasks to complete, and that starts from the very beginning of the game. On the first planet, Terra 2, one of the lengthier quests has you tracking down a few engineering books. So, here’s The Frightened Engineer side quest guide in Outer Worlds.
The Frightened Engineer Side Quest in Outer Worlds
The main quest of The Outer Worlds will take you to the Botanical Gardens just outside of Edgewater, which is where you’ll find Thomas Kemp. This engineer gives you The Frightened Engineer quest and knows Parvati, even has a bit of a crush on her.
Thomas can be found in the Botanical Lab near the workbench, although later on he’ll move to the campfire outside with the rest of the NPCs in the area.
The main objective of The Frightened Engineer has you tracking down three manuals to helps train Thomas. The first two are easy enough to find, as they both have markers to guide you.
Engineering Volume 01
Head to the Emerald Vale Community Center and find the one marked there. If you haven’t been to this location yet there’ll be some marauders to clean up, then head inside.
Engineering Volume 02
For the second manual go to town of Edgewater and head inside the Cannery at the back of the area. Just follow the marker to find it.
Engineering Volume 03
Now comes the hard part, finding the elusive third manual.
While you can investigate some terminals in the Cannery and find clues to its location, that’s what we’re here to help with, right?
The third manual can be found in the Geothermal Power Plant, specifically at the bottom of The Pit inside. To get inside the Power Plant you’ll need to deal with a few mechanicals, if you haven’t already.
Once inside find the spiral staircase in the middle of the area that leads down multiple floors. Head to the very bottom where you’ll meet Higgins, a bit of a strange survivor.
The third manual can be found in Higgins’ bed just behind a crate to the left of where he’s standing. Now that you have all three simply head back to Thomas and wrap up the quest.
