The Coin Guard Merchandise side quest sees you be asked to get some goods onto the ship you’re taking to Teer Fradee, where the game truly begins.

Following an argument with a vendor, a failed persuasion of the ship’s captain, and some tampering with the ship’s log book, you’ll need to get past some guards to get into the warehouse and get the goods ready to be smuggled.

Talking to them is a dead end, as they just say there’s nothing they can do and turn you away. You can’t attack them either, as it’s right out in the open and that’s not the aim of the quest. You’re honorable in Greedfall after all.

Therefore, there’s only one option presented to you in the Coin Guard Merchandise side quest, and that is to find a laced drink to give to the guards to knock them out.

How to Get Laced Drink (Coin Guard Merchandise Side Quest) in Greedfall

What’s tricky is that Greedfall doesn’t do a great job of telling you where to get the laced drink from. You don’t have the ingredients you need to craft it yet, and you likely don’t even have the Talent that even allows you to craft the things needed.

Therefore, you’ll need to buy the items from elsewhere and put them together, which means trying to find a merchant.

In the north west area of Serene, you’ll find a man who’s shouting about some concoction he’s selling.

You’ll meet him properly later on, but you need to head to the left of him, in the street below his cart, and you’ll a see merchant on the same side of the street. This is all north of the Warehouses part of Serene, close to the crafting table.

You need to buy some brandy and sleeping pills from him. One of each will do, and it’ll come to around 15 coins for the both of them.

Then, head to the crafting table around the corner, which is shown by a hammer and chisel on the map, and craft the laced drink you need for the Coin Guard Merchandise side quest by going to the quests items tab in the crafting menu.

You’ll then be able to head back the guards blocking the warehouse door and offer them the drink, putting them to sleep and allowing you to tell your friend to take your goods inside to be taken with you to Teer Fradee.

Now, once you’ve informed a few people that your smuggling attempt has been a success, you won’t be able to do anything else as the quest continues once you get to Teer Fradee.

In short,

  1. To get a laced drink you first need to head to a merchant to buy brandy and sleeping pills.

  2. You can then craft a laced drink at a crafting table.

  3. Then take it to the guards and put them to sleep.
