In Astral Chain, the officer you play as has a Duty Rank. Each time you level it up, you are awarded a costume item in addition to raising your maximum health.
You increase your Duty Rank by completing missions efficiently. You increase your overall score by performing well in combat and collecting Red Matter, the more the better.
Experience is awarded for each major and minor mission you have completed at the end of each File (chapter).
Leveling up your Legion is a much more traditional experience, you earn Gene Code by defeating opponents in battle.
When enemies are close to death, a finisher icon will sometimes flash. By finishing them in this manner, you will earn additional Gene Code, so make sure to do this wherever possible.
There are also certain abilities that can be equipped by your Legion that will increase their Gene Code yield, which can be unlocked by progressing far enough through their skill tree.

- Level your Duty Rank by completing major and minor missions
Take every mission available to you, fight efficiently and make sure to collect as much Red Matter as possible. Experience is awarded at the end of each File (Chapter).

Engage in combat to earn more Gene Code, making sure to use Finishing moves. You can also equip certain abilities that will increase Gene Code yield.
