PS4 System Software Update 6.50 Brings Remote Play to iOS and More

Today Sony Interactive Entertainment released a new system software update for the PS4 family of consoles. The patch is numbered 6.50, and for once it isn’t all about stability.

We get a neat surprise in the form of remote play on iOS smartphones and tablets. The remote play app can be downloaded from Apple’s app store.

The update is currently available for download directly from your PS4 settings (it might just start automatically), and the patch notes can be found below.

As you can see, the update also follows Nico Nico Live’s recently-added 720p support and does something that some Japanese games enthusiasts will love.

The feature allows swapping the “enter” button from the circle to the X. Unfortunately, this appears to be available only in certain specific countries.

It isn’t available on any of my American, European, and Japanese, and Asian accounts, so if it works for you do let us know. It’s possible that it might be bound to your location and not to the account.

At the moment of this writing, the update isn’t yet available on Sony’s support websites. Later in the day, you should be able to download the update from here if you’re in North America, and here if you’re located in Europe.
