Titanfall

More Titanfall is in Development, According to Respawn’s Vince Zampella

Respawn Entertainment’s new battle royale game Apex Legends is quickly gaining traction, but its connection with Titanfall has many wondering about the future of the wider franchise. Company founder Vince Zampella recently took to Twitter to deliver some good news for fans.

Titanfall 2 received critical acclaim when it released back in 2016, but it quickly became apparent the game didn’t perform well commercially. Sandwiched between big releases like Call of Duty and Battlefield 1 that year, Titanfall 2 struggled for numbers and was quickly put on sale at majorly discounted prices.

That fiasco didn’t bode well for the franchise’s future, particularly given that the original game’s multiplayer community exploded and then vanished in the blink of an eye two years prior.

Nobody was expecting Titanfall 3 any time soon, then, but Respawn Entertainment’s Apex Legends has suddenly brought the question back around. And it looks as though there’s light at the end of the tunnel for Titanfall fans. The developer is indeed working on future games in the series, according to Vince Zampella:

In an interview totally separate from this tweet, Respawn Entertainment’s executive producer Drew McCoy admitted that Apex Legends was actually born out of a development drive to make Titanfall 3, which has since been put on hold.

So if Vince Zampella claims more Titanfall is on the way later this year and McCoy claims that Titanfall 3 was put on hold to make Apex Legends, how far along was the third game? Is it possible that Respawn could return to development of Titanfall 3 while still supporting Apex Legends and realistically have it ready for some time later this year?

It’s a little unclear, and it may be that they’re speaking about two separate projects. More on all that soon, I’m sure.
