How to Get the Heart Key in Resident Evil 2
Resident Evil 2 updates many of the antiquated gameplay mechanics of the original, but the emphasis on puzzle-solving is still a big part of the game. That means the special keys required for various doors return. Here’s how to get the Heart Key in Resident Evil 2.
Just as in the original game, various areas of the Police Station are inaccessible to you at the beginning. They’re locked behind doors that are branded with different images: Diamond, Club, Spade, and Heart.
As you progress through your playthrough, you’ll uncover these various keys, which reveal areas that typically contain other important items needed to unlock other locations. It’s all very Metroidvania-like.
If you’re playing as Leon, you’ll probably have found every key except the Heart Key and are now wondering where on earth it is. Well, don’t bother, because it doesn’t apply to Leon. There is no Heart Key in the Leon playthrough of Resident Evil 2; it only applies to Claire.
The Heart Key is obtained after you’ve left the main Police Station and have descended to its basement area. Once you have completed most of what needs to be done in that area, you’ll use the Diamond Key that you found in the morgue to access an elevator that leads you to Chief Irons’ office.
Once you’re there, inspect the Private Collection room to find the Lovers’ Relief photo. You’ll then find the Heart Key by examining it.
