How to Oil Farm in Fallout 76

Recommended Videos

Even after the end of the world, Fallout 76 players will still find themselves in need of oil for crafting. If you’re looking to farm the flammable black substance to create a surplus, here’s how to oil farm in Fallout 76.

Like most any resource in Fallout 76, oil is a component that can be obtained through scavenging or produced via workshops built in areas with a surplus. That said, it can be easy to deplete your reserve of the stuff by relying on scavenging alone, as not all areas have a large amount available to find.

Instead, it’s best to build a base near a workshop that will farm it regularly via an oil extractor built on a nearby deposit. There are a few scattered throughout Fallout 76’s map, and some produce a higher regular yield than others.

To get the most oil farm bang for your buck, try to claim either the Wade Airport or Beckley Mine workshops. Both have three potential oil refinery locations that can produce a constant flow of the material and keep you as flush as possible while you’re out and about on your adventures.

Wade Airport can be found south east of Vault 76, near the portion of the map where the river on the left leads into a large lake. Meanwhile, Beckley Mine can be found southwest of Wade Airport on the upper edge of the Ash Heap.

If you find these locations are already occupied, you can try some of Fallout 76’s workshop locations with lower oil farm yields instead. Though they won’t produce as much as the high yield locations, they’ll still provide you with some oil on a regular basis.

One is the Federal Disposal Field HZ-21. It can be found east of the Ash Heap, just above the small crop of mountains at the bottom center of the map.

The next is the Converted Munitions Factory. Found to the north east of the Palace of the Winding Path, it’ll serve as a nice fast travel location for the eastern portion of the map.

Third is the Grafton Steel workshop, found to the south west of the Palace of the Winding Path on the left side of a small mountain range. This location falls within the Toxic Valley, so be prepared for radiation on your way to it.

Finally, there’s the Abandoned Bog Town workshop. Found on the northern tip of the Cranberry Bog, it provides a high yield of food, water, concrete and silver alongside its oil production. There will be Scorch Beasts about though, so stay alert.

Any of these locations can provide you with regular oil after you build oil extractors over their deposits. These can be built from the resources tab of the workshop crafting menu, and should be easily build able after a few hours.

Hopefully this clears up how to oil farm. Fallout 76 is currently available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. For more on all things Fallout 76, check out our  wiki for everything you’ll need to know about the title.
