How to Get an Alakazam in Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu and Eevee

Recommended Videos

Alakazam was a complete powerhouse of a Pokemon in the original Red and Blue. Although it’s not quite as broken in Let’s Go, it is still an extremely useful Psychic-type Pokemon that you’d be remiss not to have in your party.

Alakazam is the strongest  non-legendary Psychic-type Pokemon in Let’s Go, capable of learning great Psychic moves, such as Calm Mind and Future Sight.

Psychic attacks come in handy against Poison-type specialists, like the gym leader Koga, so it wouldn’t be a bad idea to employ the help of an Alakazam.

What’s really great about Alakazam is that it can be acquired exceptionally early in the game, if you know how.

Unlike most of the Kanto Pokedex, you won’t be able to catch an Alakazam out in the wild. It can only be obtained via evolution of its previous two stages.

This means that your first task is capturing an Abra or a Kadabra, the former of which is by far the easier solution. Abras can be found on Routes 5, 6, 7, and 8, with a 5% chance of appearing. It’s not the highest encounter rate in the world, but just keep running around one of these routes until an Abra pops up.

When an Abra does show itself, you know the deal: catch that sucker. Abra is a pretty crafty Pokemon and likes to run away often, so use a Great Ball or an Ultra Ball if you have one.

With an Abra in hand, the next step is to evolve it into a Kadabra. This won’t take long at all, as Abra evolves at the measly level of 16. Check out this guide here if you need any tips on how to level Pokemon fast.

There is a way to skip a step by capturing a Kadabra in the wild, but if you thought the encounter rate for Abra was low, you ain’t seen nothin’ yet. Kadabra appears on Routes 7 and 8 with an encounter rate of 1%. It could take a long time for Kadabra to show up, so I’d strongly advise going for the Abra.

The next step is to evolve that Kadabra into an almighty Alakazam. This could be the easiest or hardest step. All you need to do to evolve Kadabra is to trade it with a friend. This can be done through local wireless communications or online.

All that’s left is to convince your friend to trade the Alakazam back to you, and it’s all yours.

Once again, here is how to get an Alakazam in Pokemon Let’s Go:

  • Catch an Abra on Routes 5, 6, 7, or 8 or catch a Kadabra on Routes 7 or 8 (Abra recommended).
  • If you caught an Abra, raise it to level 16 to evolve it into a Kadabra.
  • Trade the Kadabra with a friend via local wireless communications or online.
  • Have the friend trade you back the newly-evolved Alakazam.

That’s all there is to know about how to get an Alakazam in Pokemon Let’s Go. If you’re stuck on how to find other specific Pokemon or have some other Let’s Go-related questions, check out our guide wiki.
