Red Dead Redemption 2 Is so Popular on GameFly That the Rental Service Can’t Ship It on Day One

Red Dead Redemption 2, download size, file size, install size, how big, gameplay trailer

Red Dead Redemption 2 serves a prequel to the 2010 masterpiece that is Red Dead Redemption. The open-world western-themed adventure game comes out in less than two weeks and it’s safe to say that people are very, very excited, especially us. For those that are preparing to download that huge install for the digital version or have the physical game preordered, we commend you, because if you plan on renting Red Dead 2 from a service like GameFly, you probably won’t be playing it until mid-November.

A Reddit user by the name of Xnetter3412, received an email from GameFly today giving a notice to potential Red Dead Redemption 2 renters. GameFly will apparently not be receiving any copies of the game on launch day but instead will begin shipping out discs on Wednesday, Nov 7, almost two weeks after its initial release. Here’s the entirety of the email from the site:

GameFly, of course, apologizes for the delay and states that Red Dead Redemption 2 is a very popular game which is the main reason for the pushback.

Being a 6-year subscriber to the rental service myself, I have never seen an email such as this one. There have been instances where GameFly even shipped a AAA title days before release to made sure I received the title on launch day. Leave it to Rockstar to create such a dramatic dilemma. They need to stop making such highly anticipated games, like come on guys.

Red Dead Redemption 2 launches on Oct 26 for PS4 and Xbox One. We went hands-on with the massive open-world western for about two hours and you can read about that preview right here. Spoilers: we like it, like a lot, so much that it could be our Game of the Year.
