How to Become the First Mercenary (Top of the Food Chain) in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey
Assassin’s Creed Odyssey once again transports players to the past, this time letting you explore the gorgeous islands and seas of Ancient Greece. You’ll take the role of either Alexios or Kassandra, a mercenary in the service of King Leonidas. While the game uses many of the same systems Origins created, it introduces a host of new features. This includes a Mercenary system that has you climbing a ladder of mercenaries to become the very best. Of course, this ties into a trophy/achievement called Top of the Food Chain. We’ll help tell you exactly how to become the first mercenary in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey.
First things first, you probably won’t be able to get the Top of the Food Chain achievement or trophy until later in the game. In order to become the first mercenary, you’ll need to defeat mercenaries that have a higher ranking than you do.
By going to the Mercenaries Menu you can track certain ones, which will put their icon tracked on the map. After that you’ll just need to hunt them down and kill them. The catch, of course, is that you have to kill mercenaries a higher rank than you. Unfortunately, killing ones of a lower rank won’t do anything, outside of grant you XP and items.
Basically, you’ll need to kill your way to the top in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. Some mercenaries can only be found in the arena so you’ll likely have to take some of those challenges on as well. Of course, committing crimes and upping your bounty will cause mercenaries to come after you themselves.
Tips to Become The First Mercenary in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey
You’ll most likely want your level to be in the mid to high 40s before you attempt to nab Top of the Food Chain. Some of the higher ranking mercenaries can be real tough customers, so make sure you’re prepared both in terms of level and equipment.
