Night School Studio, the indie developers behind Oxenfree (2016), have recently dropped a new E3 2018 gameplay trailer for their upcoming title, After Party.
According to the developers’ website: “In After Party, you are Milo and Lola, recently deceased best buds who suddenly find themselves staring down an eternity in Hell. But there’s a loophole: outdrink Satan and he’ll grant you re-entry to Earth.”
The new trailer provides us with a deeper look at the studio’s rather groovy rendition of Hell and the lead characters’ initial moments in the underworld. Like Oxenfree, the game seems to feature an interesting and well-balanced blend between darkness and humor, with the characters cracking jokes while a corpse dangles from the ceiling.
While the game retains Oxenfree’s award-winning art style (it won the ‘Excellence in Visual Art’ award at the Independent Game Festival 2016), After Party boasts a noticeable improvement in graphical quality and animation. It seems we will also be treated to some entertaining mini-games such as playing beer pong against a sharply-dressed and well-spoken demon. As seen in the official teaser trailer as well, it looks like the game’s NPCs will be commenting on your actions and decisions via a Twitter-like social media. We guess that means there’s internet in Hell then? That doesn’t sound too bad!

After Party is set for release somewhere in 2019.
