During a flurry of Pokemon-related announcements last night, Nintendo revealed the Pokeball Plus. It’s not something you absolutely need to play any future Pokemon games, let’s get out of the way immediately. However, it does provide some cool and convenient features for Poke-fans intending to pick up the latest entries in the long-running franchise. To help you work out whether or not the Pokeball Plus is for you, as well as fill you in on any details you may have missed, we’ve put together this handy post containing everything you need to know. So let’s jump right on in.

What Games Will it Work With?

Currently, the Pokeball Plus is only confirmed to work with Pokemon GO on mobile devices, and Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu and Let’s Go Eevee when they release on Nintendo Switch later this year. However, there’s always a possibility that it could work with the other Pokemon RPG coming to Switch in 2019, as well as other future, unannounced projects.

So What Exactly Does it Do?

The Pokeball Plus essentially aims to make your Poke-catching and battling experience that little bit more enjoyable and convenient, too. When using the upcoming accessory with Let’s Go Pikachu and Let’s Go Eevee, you’ll be able to use it as a Joy-Con. You’ll be able to move, battle Pokemon, navigate menus, and obviously catch Pokemon.

It’s catching Pokemon in these games where the Pokeball Plus comes into its own. The handy accessory has motion controls built in, so pretend to throw your Pokeball Plus and you’ll do exactly that in the game. It also lights up and vibrates when the Pokemon is caught, as well as letting off the monster’s unique cry.

As for how it works with Pokemon GO, it’s essentially one of the Pokemon GO Plus wristbands but a little more substantial. Simply connect the peripheral up to your Pokemon GO app, and it’ll count your steps, as well as light up and vibrate when Pokemon are nearby. Press the button and lights will let you know whether or not you were successful in catching it. It takes the tedium and monotony out of the mobile game’s grind a little bit.

How Much a Pokeball Plus Will Cost

Currently, Nintendo has yet to reveal pricing information for the Pokeball Plus. However, as soon as we have this information available, we’ll be sure to update this post and let you know. Chances are, we’ll see some sort of bundle with the upcoming Switch title later this year, though.

Pokeball Plus Release Date

The Pokeball Plus will release alongside Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu and Let’s Go Eevee on Nov. 16.
