Persona 5 Tops 2.2 Million Units Sold in Worldwide Shipments

Persona 5 was one of the most highly anticipated JRPG releases of 2017, so it’s absolutely no surprise to hear that it’s sold extremely well across the globe. According to the latest financial report from Atlus and Sega, the game surpassed 2.2 million units sold worldwide, which bodes very well for the future of the series and potentially even the Shin Megami Tensei franchise. It’s also worth noting that the game was released in Japan a few months earlier, so that contributed to its strong sales as well.

The report also made mention of games like Sonic Mania and Total War: Warhammer, both of which had also enjoyed good sales in the past year.

Persona 5 follows the story of a new unnamed protagonist who finds himself with the ability to travel to an alternate dimension where he can fight Shadows and cleanse the souls of corrupted individuals in the real world. Atlus’ next big focus is on Shin Megami Tensei V, which was announced for the Switch last year.

Persona 5 is now available on PS4 and PS3.
