God of War Takes the Spot as Fastest-Selling PS4 Exclusive

Sony Santa Monica has accomplished a considerable feat this past month. Not only has the studio successfully pressed the restart button on the God of War franchise in the best way that they possibly can, but the sales numbers for God of War has been released and it turns out that the game has now become the fastest-selling PS4 exclusive.

God of War managed to sell just over three million units globally in the first three days of what was a highly anticipated launch. The father-son dynamic between Kratos and Atreus was something that we’ve never seen before from the action-heavy series and we didn’t quite know what to expect from the full game, but what we did get was a highly refined experience that emphasized the story instead of Kratos’ bloody vengeance throughout Olympus.

Shannon Studstill, head of SIE Santa Monica,  shared a personal message to fans, thanking them for supporting God of War:

“I would like to personally thank the millions of fans around the world who decided to embark on Kratos’ latest adventure with us. Your support is truly inspiring, and it’s a reason why we push ourselves every day to go beyond the boundaries of play. I’d also like to thank our Creative Director, Cory Barlog, and Director of Product Development, Yumi Yang and our entire amazing team at Santa Monica Studio. The belief in the game’s vision and the passion for storytelling across the team is undeniable. We look forward to hearing more about how fans are creating new memories of their favorite God of War gameplay moments that will be remembered for a long time.”
