Dragon Quest Builders was first released in Japan in Jan. 2016 for PlayStation 3, PS Vita and PS4. The game can be described as a mesh between RPG elements from the 30-year-old franchise and building mechanics from games like Minecraft.

Recently, Square Enix released a trailer for the Japanese version of the Switch port, featuring exclusive Switch items and a new rideable companion called the Great Sabrecat. Unlike its initial release, the Switch port will launch ahead of its Japanese debut in March.

The sequel, Dragon Quest Builders 2, will be coming to PS4 and Nintendo Switch. Currently, a release date has yet to be announced.

New features in the sequel include sloping platforms, the ability to create waterfalls and underwater diving. Additionally, it will feature four-person multiplayer and faster traveling time via the new hang glider.

Stay tuned for more information leading up to the game’s launch.
