Today Nintendo announced the company’s new Articles of Incorporation, a document that establishes the process by which the company operates. The new articles outline three new areas of business that Nintendo is entering: development and manufacturing of medical and health devices, development of computer software, and the management and investment in “eating establishments.”
Nintendo had nothing to say about what these amendments mean exactly, but it seems pretty clear where it could go. Nintendo is diversifying, and this change in their documentation lays the ground work for it. The changes are set to go into effect June 29th, which is the day of Nintendo’s 76th Annual General Meeting of Shareholders.
We’ve already seen early signs of the company’s new diversification strategies with their new movie venture and their first mobile hit Miitomo. It wouldn’t be too surprising for them to go full-force into restaurants and health devices.
So what can we expect in the future based on these changes? Perhaps a chain of restaurants based on the Mushroom Kingdom? An actual Hyrule Temple that serves heart container punch? On the health devices front, could we see a new line of apps and games that incorporate devices similar to Nintendo’s heartbeat sensor? It’s all up in the air really, and we’ll just have to wait and find out.
