Fable Legends is no longer being worked on, according to a new post on Xbox.com. In a heartfelt post from Press Play Studios in Denmark is also being closed down, along with development on their game Project Knoxville.
This will come as a shocking blow to gamers, as Lionhead Studios has brought us some truly wonderful games in the past, such as Black and White and the Fable series. Work was well on its way on Fable Legends, with there even being a closed beta, but it seems the project has been stopped.
Lemke stressed that the news is no reflection on the development teams, saying: “We are incredibly fortunate to have the talent, creativity and commitment of the people at these studios. The Lionhead Studios team has delighted millions of fans with the Fable series over the past decade. Press Play imbued the industry with a unique creative spirit behind games like Max: The Curse of Brotherhood and Kalimba, which both captured passionate fans. These changes are taking effect as Microsoft Studios continues to focus its investment and development on the games and franchises that fans find most exciting and want to play.”
Despite this sad news, Lemke assured gamers that Microsoft is still committed to developers across the UK and Europe. He also stated that Microsoft gamers can still expect to see great titles such as Quantum Break and Sea of Thieves in the near future. The post finished by stating that Microsoft is working closely with employees affected by the shutdowns in an effort to find them new opportunities in the gaming industry.
We’re very sad to hear this news and we hope all those developers affected find new fulfilling careers soon.
