And with their powers combined…
The upcoming platformer from Playtonic Games, Yooka-Laylee, is looking at a Spring 2017 release date. In the meantime, the developer is consistently releasing new trailers and information regarding the game. Most recently, Playtonic released a trailer showing off Shovel Knight’s appearance in their colorful platformer, as well as other characters to be seen in the game. Playtonic posted the trailer on their Twitter page:

Released back in 2014 on PC, 3DS, and Wii U, and later released on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, Shovel Knight was released to much praise. Like Yooka-Laylee, whose roots are entrenched in the 3D platformers of the late 90s and early 2000s, Shovel Knight’s platforming mechanics harken back to an era that is still close to many gamers’ hearts. As such, it is really touching that Playtonic wants to bring Shovel Knight and Yooka-Laylee together, in a way.
As more and more footage of Yooka-Laylee is released, its Banjo-Kazooie-like qualities become all the more clear. Furthermore, Grant Kirkhope, the music composer for Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie, is also working on the game. As such, gamers should be looking forward to a large dose of nostalgia in early 2017.
