The Crafting Tool can be found towards the beginning of the game when Lara goes with Jacob into the abandoned mines as a shortcut to get to his village in the Geothermal valley. It isn’t particularly well-hidden, either. Probably because of how important the crafting tools are in Rise of the Tomb Raider.

Simply progress through until you reach the ice cavern with the trucks hanging off the ledge and the big door across the chasm. When you reach that room, there will be a handful of enemies for you to take out. No big deal, do what you do best. Then, simply walk over to the strongbox in the left side of the room (pictured above) and claim the Crafting Tool.

The crafting tool will unlock the first extra set of weapon upgrades in Rise of the Tomb Raider.

The Enhancement Tool can be found once the initial battle between the Trinity supporters and the natives commence. You’ll find it not too long after you create the Grenade Arrows for the first time and rescue Sophia. You’ll eventually blow up debris covering a door and crawl underneath it to an area full of enemies. Nothing you can’t handle, as by this point you should be a Rise of the Tomb Raider veteran.

The strongbox itself will be on the far right side of the room towards where you came in. Open it up and you’ll get the Enhancement Tool, which will unlock the second unlockable upgrade tier for all of your weapons.

Get to crafting!

Where to Find the Refinement Tool in Rise of the Tomb Raider

The Refinement Tool can be purchased anytime after you’ve obtained the enhancement tool from the Supply Shack. You’re going to need to use Byzantine Coins for it. 175 to be exact. If that is too steep a price for you, you can always go coin hunting by reading Monoliths. Monoliths will pin point coin caches in an area for you, giving you access to large amount of Byzantine Coins.

The problem is, some monoliths require high amounts of language skill to access them. Make sure you are reading every relic/manuscript/mural that you can find in order to raise your language skills as high as possible.

You might have to come back for this one later on in Rise of the Tomb Raider once your skills are higher and you’re stacking Byzantine Coins to the ceiling.
