Beginner Terran Builds for Terran TvZ in StarCraft: Remastered
Finding the best build to learn the basics in StarCraft: Remastered can be daunting. Despite StarCraft: Remastered coming out in 2017, Brood War has been around much longer. The balance for Brood War has been settled for nearly two decades, and in that of time, players have come up with a lot of different strategies across all of the possible matchups, including Terran vs. Zerg (aka TvZ). Picking out the right one when you don’t have much knowledge of the game can be tough. It might be tempting to pick a “cheese” build for easy wins by catching your opponent off guard, but if you want to learn the basics on TvZ and the Terran race, it’s best to pick something out that’s more basic and standard.
Liquidpedia, a long standing source for reliable StarCraft: Brood War builds and information is an excellent resource to get you started and we recommend you take a look here at some of the TvZ build openers they suggest. Unlike the mech style we recommend in TvT and TvP, for TvZ a bio style is preferred. Out of the many that exist, we recommend the following opening build: Two Barracks Pressure. We like this TvZ build the best because, like other builds we recommend, it forces you to scout early, gives you an opportunity to be the aggressor, or choose to transition into something more passive if that’s what you prefer.
Below you can see the opener in its entirety (credit to Liquidpedia). Once the Academy is complete, and you can start getting a few medics, we recommend poking with the forces you have and getting a sense of what your opponent is doing. Be careful not to over commit and throw away your units. For example, if you see a bunch of Sunken Colonies and/or Lurkers even (depending on when you arrive), obviously don’t suicide your army into it. Retreat, and get some tanks (and detection if it’s Lurkers) instead so you can attack safely from afar. If you find an overwhelming amount of Zerglings, consider getting some Firebats. There’s a lot of different ways this opener can take you, and it’s all going to be dependent on what you see when you push out. So again, don’t sit at home and be passive, the quicker you learn what you need to transition into, the better off you will be.
As much as you may want something that can you follow all the way until the end of the game, recall back to our beginner tips & tricks. Having a set plan that takes you all the way to the end game is difficult and not very realistic, unless you’re playing a No Rush 20 Min game or something like that. You should have an opener like the one below to get you going, but after that, scout your opponent and react to what they have decided to do and figure out a plan for beating them. The Liquidpedia page for the Terran vs. Zerg matchup in Broodwar has more advanced tips for how you should transition plus other openers in case you want to try something different than what we recommend.
Note: The numbers are your supply in which you should be building this unit/structure. Â Remember you should be constantly building workers to increase your supply until you have your bases saturated.Â
