Ms. Marvel Makes the Avengers Game Way More Interesting Now

This article is over 5 years old and may contain outdated information

This past weekend during New York Comic-Con, Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics announced a new playable character for the upcoming Marvel’s Avengers game. Surprisingly, Kamala Khan (Ms. Marvel) is the main character of the story, helping to bring the team back together after the death of Captain America and now the plot of the game has become way more interesting.

When fans got their first glimpse of the Avengers game at E3 2019, it left a lot of people with a sour taste in their mouth; the character designs were bland, the combat looked aggressively okay, and the entire gameplay demo left us with more questions than answers.

With the gameplay reveal coming right after the much-anticipated film, Avengers Endgame, there was a lot of hype for this game to look excellent to give Marvel fans a reason to want to jump on board.

As a fan myself, I was not very excited for Avengers, until now.

Kamala Khan, marvel's Avengers, square enix,

Kamala Khan is a fairly new character in the Marvel Universe, with her first comic series being published only in 2014. Not only is she the first Muslim Marvel character to headline her own Comic but she’s young and fresh and brings something unique to this Avengers story.

We’ve seen enough of Cap, Hulk, Iron Man, Black Widow, and Thor over the last 10 years or so in the MCU and it’s absolutely refreshing to see another Marvel character in the spotlight for once, especially in a big video game like this.

And it’s not just the character herself that seems refreshing but her combat style that was shown in the reveal trailer looks like so much fun.

Thanks to her polymorphic abilities, Ms. Marvel can make her limbs huge in size, allowing her to grab enemies and throw them about as if they were rag dolls, with only one fist.

I totally understand why the “main” and well-known Avengers were shown during the initial gameplay reveal, but honestly, Kamala Khan’s role in the game should have been announced a long time ago –It’s just more interesting to see a female character take the lead in this way, especially a newer character.

I don’t know a ton about the backstory of Ms. Marvel but I really cannot wait to check out the game now once it launches in May 2020.

I’m very excited to see how Kamala will interact with the other members of the team and I also just want to know what other characters Square Enix and Marvel have up their sleeves for this game.

Maybe Marvel can scrounge up some other new and obscure heroes from the comics and bring them to light now that Kamala is out in the open.

I really just hope that this all turns out to be at least a decent game at the end of the day. The hype for anything Avengers-related is higher than it has ever been and Crystal Dynamics needs to get things right if they plan on making this title a smash hit.

Marvel’s Avengers launches on May 15, 2020 for PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Google Stadia.
