Zelda Breath of the Wild: How to Open Skeleton Chests

This article is over 7 years old and may contain outdated information

In Zelda Breath of the Wild, there are tons of chests to open which contain very valuable items. One type of these chests are skeleton chests which only open by meeting a specific requirement.

Skeleton chests are normally found around enemy camps (generally on a raised platform or tower) in Breath of the Wild. You’ll notice that around the camp will be a mob of Bokoblins, Moblins, and/or Lizalfos. Instead of using a standard key to open skeleton chests, you’ll have to eliminate every single pesky enemy around the campsite. After doing so, you’ll view a cutscene of the chest unlocking. Just make your way to it and its contents will be yours for the taking.

Skeleton chests will generally hold slightly higher value items, like gemstones or a large amount of rupees, which makes seeking them out vital to getting ahead in Breath of the Wild. In trying to open them, you’ll also get your hands on hordes of monster parts which are incredibly important for many different aspects of the game as well, so it is very much a win-win. Just be sure not to rush into an enemy camp unprepared as it can get pretty dicey with all those enemies rushing after you. Especially in the later parts of the game.
