This is the definitive Universal Tower Defense X tier list, ranking all units based on their overall DPS and support potential. Along with the tier list, we added the summaries of each unit’s strengths and weaknesses, best traits, best teams, and other helpful information. Use it as a guide on which units to summon, upgrade, and use, to make your progression as fast as possible.
Universal Tower Defense X Tier List
In the image above, you can find the tier list of all units in Universal Tower Defense X (UTDX), separated into DPSs and supports. We left out all the non-farm low-rarity units, as their DPS and support potentials are negligible compared to those of higher-rarity units.
As a rule of thumb, the newer and rarer a unit is, the stronger it will be. Therefore, it’s crucial you spend your resources on the new units as they get released to stay competitive. Support units that provide money generation (Bulmo and Fastcart) and buffs (Virtual Idol, Enlightened God, etc.) are viable and often meta despite being older. More details about the rankings and each unit’s pros and cons are in the sections below.
Ranking Factors
- DPS: Single-target DPS is what will often determine if you can beat the boss in the most difficult stages. Therefore, Cooldown, Attack, Crit Rate, etc., are often the most important stats to increase on a DPS unit.
- Range & Attack Type: Units with more range and hybrid/hill targeting can cover a bigger area and hit enemies that lower-range or ground-only units can’t. That gives them extra overall value, though they sometimes have slightly lower DPS than ground-only ones. Also, the bigger the AoE of their attacks and abilities, the better.
- Placement Count: Placement count often determines the best trait for a unit, as well as the total DPS it can dish out. Units with lower placement count tend to have better DPS and make much better use of the Ruler trait.
- Support Potential: Units such as Bulmo, Fastcart, Super Idol, etc., provide buffs or money generation for the team, which outweighs the benefit of having another DPS. Bulmo and Fastcart are meta for every short game mode, while Super Idol is by far the best buffer.
- Etherealization Buffs: Etherialization bonuses can make some units busted, while for some, they don’t matter much at all. A fully etherialized Mythic unit can be much better than a Secret one, and it’s also way easier to obtain.
- Rarity: Higher-rarity units have higher base stats, making them better by default. They also often have much better passives or synergies with other high-rarity units.
- Synchros: Some units can combine into a stronger one, which are often some of the strongest units in the game. They can be especially useful if you don’t have all the meta units.
What About Legendary and Below Units?
Most Legendary, Epic, and Rare units are useless for anything but the lowest-level Story stages, with the exception being support/farm ones such as Bulmo, Fastcart, Namo, etc. The rule of thumb is to use these units as Fusion material for your best Mythic/Secret/Exclusive units, as leveling them to Lv. 100 is extremely difficult without Fusion. Also, it’s recommended not to spend resources and rerolls on Legendary and below units, as getting Mythic+ ones is fairly easy even if you’re completely new.
