The Division: How to Level Up Faster and Easier

Hey look, I leveled up.
This article is over 8 years old and may contain outdated information

The Division is an open world RPG set in New York City after it has been thrown into chaos. A biological attack on Black Friday has left the world without order as dangerous factions rise to claim the city for themselves. As an agent of The Division, you’ll need to help restore that order that has been lost, and that means you’ll have to get stronger to deal with the challenges that await you.

While skills are tied to specific requirements you need to complete to unlock them, gear is tied to your level. XP is still very important in this RPG, and you’re going to want a lot of it if you hope to accomplish anything in the cold world of The Division.

Here are a few ways to help you level up quickly as you serve as one of the best agents the world has ever known.

Keep Your Eyes Peeled

There are several types of intel lying around the city just waiting to be uncovered by you and your friends. A lot of these items carry sizable amount of XP for those lucky enough to stumble upon them. You will need to keep your eyes peeled, though, to locate them.

Don’t take main roads everywhere. Follow alleyways, duck into buildings, use fire escapes, and check stores. There’s no telling where you’ll find Echoes, files, and cellphones. Also, if you happen to find one, be a good person and let other players know so that they too can relish in the rewards.

 Help Those In Need

Being the good guy can pay off in The Division. For some nice XP, you’ll want to keep an eye out for survivors in need. They’ll flash yellow when they’re close enough, and you will be able to interact with them, unlike most random people.

Helping most people is incredibly simple since you usually only have to give them an item. While it may be hard to part with some items, a quick burst of XP isn’t too bad of a deal. You’ll get an item in return and a few hundred XP for your troubles, so keep scavenging for more survivors.

Play With Others

The Division is a game that tries its best to ensure you have an engaging experience whether you’re playing alone or with friends. To make this happen, enemies are scaled to the size of your group. Playing with more agents means more enemies that are smarter and stronger.

More targets to gun down directly translates to more XP opportunities. Also, since they’re tougher versions of enemies, they’re worth even more XP than they would’ve been had you played alone. That’s a solid incentive for not going all lone wolf out there.

Grab some teammates and head out there to grind some cooperative levels.

Upgrade Your Base of Operations

Your base of operations is your hub for all things that have to do with becoming a better Agent, and can help out quite a bit with leveling up.

One specific wing you’ll want to focus on upgrading if you really want to up your XP rewards and level up quicker is the Security Wing. Through this, you can earn a 10% XP bonus for all activities and a 25% XP bonus from accolades.

Check For Special Gear

Gear will have random perk and stat rolls for every piece. One particularly useful perk is + Kill XP. As you’ve probably guessed, this earns you extra XP for kills. When combined with your Base of Operations perks and playing with friends, you can net a large boost of experience.

Unfortunately, the random nature means that your chances of obtaining gear with this perk are slim. But luck graces everyone eventually, so be on the lookout.

With these tips you’ll see your Agent level up in no time. Soon, you’ll be the savior that New York City needs.
