What’s New and Different in The Sims 4 on PS4 and Xbox One?
It’s finally been confirmed that The Sims 4 will be making its way to the PS4 and Xbox One this November. Of course, this isn’t the first time that The Sims has been ported over to consoles, with previous titles hitting the likes of the Xbox 360 and PS3, albeit with a number of features missing. As such, you’re probably wondering exactly what is new and different in The Sims 4 on PS4 and Xbox One. Well, let us give you a quick rundown.
Features Missing from Base PC Version
When The Sims 4 first released on PC three years ago, fans were a little miffed about the features that were missing from the base game. Features that players had previously had access to in The Sims 3 were absent and, while they’ve been added in thanks to free updates and expansions, some players may be wondering if it’s going to be a similar situation when the PS4 and Xbox One versions arrive in November.
However, from taking a look at the official console launch trailer for The Sims 4, it looks like Maxis has crammed a number of features missing in the base game of The Sims 4 PC into the console port. We’ve included a quick list of all of these below.
- Ghosts
- Pools
- Half-Walls
- Dishwashers
- The World of Newcrest
- Gender Customization
- Toddlers
We also spotted a few of the career options that were missing from the base version of The Sims 4 on PC, though, at this moment in time it remains unclear exactly which ones these are. We’ll be sure to update you as and when we find out more.
Stuff Packs and Digital Content
What’s New and Different in The Sims 4 on PS4 and Xbox One?
The Sims games never just stop at the base game. Over the years that follow, Maxis continues to build upon the foundations with Stuff packs, expansions, and other digital content that players can use to enrich their Sims’ lives. The Xbox One and PS4 versions of The Sims 4 will bring a bunch of these Stuff packs to players for free… as long as they pre-order The Sims 4 Deluxe Party Edition, that is.
In doing so, players will get access to the following content, as well as three days early access:
- Perfect Patio Stuff Pack –Â Adds hot tubs, fashion options, and bonus decor.
- Life of the Party Digital Content –Â Adds Flaming Tiki Bar and other stylish outfits for your Sims.
- Up All Night Digital Content –Â Includes the Laser Light Show, more decorations, and some party costumes for your Sims.
- Awesome Animal Hats Digital Content –Â Adds a bunch of animal hats, because who doesn’t want free animal hats?
Even if you don’t pre-order, though, you’ll still get some one of the post-launch packs for the PC base version included for free in The Sims 4 on Xbox One and PS4. The Holiday Pack includes festive items such as the Nut Cracker sculpture, Holiday Candle, Fireplace with Holiday Garland, and Holiday Cracker. With the holiday season just around the corner when The Sims 4 arrives on PS4 and Xbox One, it seems like the perfect pack to come in the base version of the game.
Expansions and Other DLC

While few details have been shared regarding expansions and other Stuff Packs making their way to The Sims 4 on Xbox One and PS4 post-launch, the team did confirm via Twitter that they’ll be discussing DLC and content packs coming to the console versions of the game in the coming months.
We will be talking more about the DLC coming to console in the coming months.

With a bit of luck, it shouldn’t be too much longer until we know for sure what expansions we’ll be getting. Or, at least the first of the DLC heading to The Sims 4 on Xbox One and PS4.
Cheats and Mods
What’s New and Different in The Sims 4 on PS4 and Xbox One?
We’ve all used cheats in The Sims at some point. Just having an abundance of money or access to all of the items in the game makes creating a dream life for your Sim that much easier. Well good news, The Sims 4 on Xbox One and PS4 will have cheats, but there is a caveat. Using cheats in the console versions will disable achievements or trophies on that save.
Unfortunately, when it comes to user-created mods on the console versions, Maxis has remained fairly quiet. Whether or not this will be possible, or whether there will be caveats (especially on the PS4 version following the Bethesda mods debacle) to this feature remains to be seen. We’ll be sure to update you and let you know anything as soon as we find out, though.
The Sims 4 will release on PS4 and Xbox One on Nov. 17.
