Super Mario 64: Can You Play as Wario

This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information

After years of pleading and wondering why Super Mario 64 has not been ported to Switch yet… it’s finally ported to Switch. Super Mario 3D All Stars delivers the Nintendo 64 version with enhanced visuals and textures as a perk to those who pick up the 3D All Stars version of the classic 3D platformer. If you’re here, you’re probably wondering how to play as Wario and if you even can in this version of Super Mario 64 & 3D All Stars. Here’s what you need to know about the status of Mario’s more nefarious and fatter doppelganger.

Wario in Super Mario 64 & 3D All Stars

The fact that Wario is even on the table as possibly appearing in Super Mario 64 & 3D All Stars is because the DS version of Super Mario 64 did feature Wario prominently as a playable character. He was slow but strong and could turn into Metal Wario.

However, Wario will not be appearing in this version of Super Mario 64 & 3D All Stars as he was not present in the original game. That is, of course, unless you believe the creepypastas about every copy of Mario 64 being personalized and the Wario apparition. If that’s the case then maybe you’ll run into Wario after all…

Anyway, sorry if we’re the bearer of bad news in this case, but at least you have your answer. But hey, enjoy the classic and iconic feel of finding Wing Cap, Metal Mario, and Vanish Cap for the first time before Luigi and Wario showed up in the DS version and nearly ran Mario out of a job by stealing away all of his cool power-ups for themselves.

That’s all you need to know about Wario in Super Mario 64 for 3D All Stars. Best of luck hunting down all of the game’s stars as everyone’s favorite red plumber.
