How to Get a Portable Generator & How to Use Them in State of Decay 2
If you’ve been scavenging your territory in State of Decay 2, upgrading your base and building facilities, you may have noticed that power is a pretty important utility to have at your disposal in a zombie apocalypse. As you’d expect though, it’s not easy enough to get your hands on, and so you’ll either need to find the right kind of outpost to get power to your base, or use a portable generator or two instead. Here’s what you need to know to get a portable generator and how to use them in State of Decay 2.
First off, the Portable Generator isn’t all that difficult to find. By the end of your playthrough, you’ll likely have a bunch of these facility mods just lying around in your base’s inventory. You can find them by simply scavenging the map as you go. As far as we’re aware, items don’t spawn in particular places, so just be sure to check everything you can possibly search.
If you’re struggling to get a portable generator in State of Decay 2 through scavenging, you can always try trading some Influence for one with an Enclave. Once you’re friendly with an Enclave, you can trade with them by going up to any member and pressing Y and selecting the option to trade. And if the Enclaves all let you down for a portable generator, be sure to check any limited-time traders you’re notified of State of Decay 2. They often have powerful weapons and rare items, so it’s well worth checking out.
Once you have a portable generator, you’ll first need to drop it into your base’s Supply Locker. Then, you can press the Views button on your Xbox One controller, use RB to navigate over to the Base menu, and select the facility you want to provide power to. Once selected, use the left stick to go down to the option to Equip Mods under the ‘Mods’ header. Press A, and select the portable generator mod from the list here. It’ll take a while for the portable generator to be equipped, but once it is, you’ll be able to activate it and provide power to that facility whenever you want by accessing the facility’s menu. Just keep in mind this will require you to use some of your base’s fuel reserves, and it’ll make some noise while it’s running.
That’s all you need to know to get a portable generator and how to use them in State of Decay 2. For more on the game, be sure to check out our ever-expanding wiki.
