The latest and greatest from Sakurai-san, Smash Bros Ultimate, has arrived and the biggest smash of all-time is on. You don’t have to go at it alone though. You can play with your friends in Smash Bros Ultimate, and here’s how to do it. Let’s break down the two options.

Playing Local Multiplayer with Friends in Smash Bros Ultimate

You can play local multiplayer in any of the game’s modes, including Classic Mode. Classic will let you play with two people total. Mob Smash will let you play with up to four people, and everything else allows for eight.

When you enter a mode, and are on the character select screen, all you need to do is to look for the little icon that has a person a plus sign. This will add a player in, and then they just need to press L+R  on their controller to join in on the match.

The little icon that has the person with the minus sign will take away the player slot if that’s what you want to do instead.

You can click the player number in each box to change it to a CPU if you want an AI-controlled opponent or teammate.

Finally on the main menu there’s also an option for local wireless that you can use to connect to other nearby Switch consoles. You can create a room or join one that your friends set up.

How to Play Online with Friends in Smash Bros Ultimate

To play online with friends in Smash Bros Ultimate what you’ll need to do is go to the Online section of the main menu in the bottom right.

Once you are there, you have a couple of options. You can go to quickplay and you can queue up with someone that is locally with you to play online.
