If you’ve been playing Red Dead Online already, chances are you’re looking at your starting revolver and repeater and wondering when you can get your hands on some sleek new firearms. Unfortunately, a lot of the weapons in Red Dead Online are locked and you won’t be able to get these for quite some time. Well, we’re here to clear up any confusion. Here’s how to unlock all weapons in Red Dead Online.

Weapons are unlocked in Red Dead Online the same way as most other items you don’t have immediate access to. It all comes down to what your rank is. Your rank will increase as you earn experience from completing story missions, killing enemies, hunting, completing series, finding treasure, and basically doing anything in the open world.

The various weapons in Red Dead Online are unlocked at different ranks depending on how powerful they are. The more lethal a weapon is, you can bet your bottom dollar you’re going to have to reach a higher rank in order to unlock it. We’ve listed what rank you need to be to unlock all weapons in Red Dead Online down below.

All Weapon Unlock Ranks in Red Dead Online

  • Pump-action Shotgun – Rank 5
  • Bolt Action Rifle – Rank 7
  • Varmint Rifle – Rank 8
  • Schofield Revolver – Rank 9
  • Repeating Shotgun – Rank 11
  • Lancaster Repeater – Rank 12
  • Rolling Block Rifle – Rank 13
  • Double Action Revolver – Rank 17
  • Litchfield Repeater – Rank 18
  • Sawed-off shotgun – Rank 19
  • Volcanic Pistol – Rank 21
  • Semi-Automatic pistol – Rank 22
  • Double-barreled Shotgun – Rank 30
  • Mauser Pistol – Rank 34
  • Springfield Rifle – Rank 38
  • Semi-auto shotgun – Rank 42
  • Carcano Rifle – Rank 50

Once you’ve reached these ranks, however, it’s worth noting that you’re not just given these weapons to then go and use however you wish in Red Dead Online. You’ll still need to purchase them. These can cost up to $1000, so you best get robbin’ fools, winning horse races, and finding treasure if you’re going to add to your collection of firearms.

To buy weapons in Red Dead Online, you’ll want to press left on the d-pad when you’re walking about. This will bring up the portable catalog. From here, select the Weapons option and scroll through the different pages until you find the weapon you want to purchase. If you haven’t yet reached the unlock rank for a weapon in Red Dead Online, the game will also notify you of this in the top left-hand corner.

That’s pretty much all you need to know to unlock all weapons in Red Dead Online. If we uncover any additional weapons that aren’t yet on this list, we’ll be sure to update this post.
