The Best Guns and Weapons to Use in PUBG

Recommended Videos

Although it’s possible to win a PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) match without firing a single shot, your best chances of survival are going to involve pulling the trigger. Here, we’ve compiled a list of our picks for the best guns and weapons in PUBG.

We have not included hand guns, principally because they tend to be panic weapons that you’ll only ever use as a last resort. Similarly, the melee weapons in PUBG: frying pan, sickle, crowbar, and machete, have not been included in this guide for the same reason. Each of these will only be ever used as a last resort and there is little difference between each. It’s likely that when you first parachute onto the island, you’ll quickly find a melee weapon, but you shouldn’t try to take on an enemy until you’ve got a proper weapon. Your first port of call should always be to set yourself up with a loadout of weaponry that should include something capable of longer range engagements.

Here are the best guns in PUBG by category:

Assault Rifle (AR)

Best Guns and Weapons to Use in PUBG

M16 A4 – This semi auto/burst fire assault rifle is our pick of the bunch in PUBG. Our recommendation is to get good using semi auto and ignore the burst fire mode. Even without the fully automatic rate of fire of the AK and SCAR, you’ll be able to put plenty of rounds downrange. Importantly, you can put accurate rounds on target, especially at a longer distance where the M16 reigns supreme. This is absolutely the most accurate AR in the game, and it actually works well at longer ranges with a scope in place of a proper sniper rifle.

The M16 only has two weapon slots beyond its optics: magazine and barrel options. Use the extended magazine and a compensator for best results. Ideally, fit a scope for better accuracy. If you are using the 8x scope, consider carrying a red dot for closer engagements.

Other notable attributes include its lesser bullet drop and recoil than rifles like the AKM. It is also a common rifle with ammunition that should be readily available.

Ammo: 5.56mm
Ammo Capacity: 30 stock, 40 extended
Attachment Slots: 3

M416 – Our runner up rifle in PUBG, the M416 is a smaller carbine version of the M16 that boasts full auto fire. Its range is shorter, though still satisfactory at medium distances. The weapon’s full auto fire might be better suited to players who prefer closer engagements, or even as a weapon to swap to depending on the ebb and flow of the match.

The weaker power of the rifle is made up for by its multiple weapon slots. By end game, you can pimp this rifle’s stats to make up for those shortcomings. Like the M16, it’s a rifle you should find in plentiful supply.

Ammo: 5.56mm
Ammo Capacity: 30 stock, 40 extended
Attachment Slots: 5

Sub Machine Gun (SMG)

Best Guns and Weapons to Use in PUBG

UMP – This SMG has a massive rate of fire and large capacity, which makes it our favorite choice as a secondary weapon. Pop on the extended magazine and the capacity increases to 40, which will allow you to down multiple enemies with the same mag, unlike an Uzi or Vector. Another super common weapon in PUBG, the UMP’s 9mm ammo shouldn’t ever be in short supply.

One of its best features is that it is perfect for breaching, thanks to its small size and short barrel. You won’t find the weapon getting stuck on tree branches, and it should be easy to peep around corners without revealing yourself.

The UMP boasts four slots. The optimum attachments for the UMP are the vertical grip, x2 scope, and compensator.

Ammo: 9mm
Ammo Capacity: 30 stock, 45 extended
Attachment Slots: 4

Vector – If you’re not keen on the UMP, the Vector is our second choice SMG. This ultra-compact weapon packs a decent punch, but it is limited by shorter range. Save full auto for the closest encounters and fire in controlled bursts for firefights over 15m.

Ammo: .45 ACP
Ammo Capacity: 13 stock, 25 extended
Attachment Slots: 4

Shotgun

Best Guns and Weapons to Use in PUBG

S12K – There’s only one shotgun we would recommend in PUBG, and that is the S12K. It’s not an easy weapon to find, but it is the most tactical of the three options due to its automatic rate of fire and magazine capacity. The other shotguns might hit harder, but you won’t have to reload the S12K as often, and when you do, it’s a proper magazine, as opposed to individual cartridges. There’s also an option to fit a red dot sight.

Ammo: 12 Gauge
Ammo Capacity: 5 stock, 8 extended
Attachment Slots: 3

Sniper Rifle

Best Guns and Weapons to Use in PUBG

AWM – Of all the long range guns in PUBG, the AWM is an absolute beast, and it’s an obvious pick for the most accomplished sniper rifle. It easily boasts the best stats, with firepower that can take out enemies with a single shot from massive distances. That all being said, it can’t be found outside of supply drops, and you can never bank on getting this rifle in the first place. The .300 Magnum ammo is also very rare. Purely on performance, the AWM is the best sniper rifle in the game, but in all likelihood, you’ll spend more time with other guns.

Ammo: .300 Magnum
Ammo Capacity: 5 stock, 7 extended
Attachment Slots: 4

Kar98 – The Kar98 is the sniper rifle of choice for those who aren’t going to rush supply drops for the AWM. This rifle has excellent power and good iron sights. We have found the best strategy is to the semi auto SKS and use the M16 with an x8 scope instead. For anything that requires longer range, you can switch to the Kar98.

Ammo: .762mm
Ammo Capacity: 5
Attachment Slots: 3
