Pokemon Sword & Shield: How to Change Uniform

This article is over 5 years old and may contain outdated information

Pokemon Sword & Shield offers players the opportunity to create their own trainer rather than playing a specific character in the game as they have previously. This means there’s much more freedom in terms of customization, and that includes the ability to change your uniform. Here’s how to change uniform in Pokemon Sword & Shield.

As alluded to above, uniforms are worn when taking on rival Trainers at gyms. They’re first introduced to you on Motostoke Island. Think of them almost like a sports outfit you would wear when competing — they even feature your chosen trainer number.

How to Get More Uniforms

For each gym Trainer that you take down, you’ll receive a new uniform for your collection. You’ll then be able to swap between these new uniforms according to your preference. Defeating the Steel gym, for example, will reward you with that Steel uniform, and so on and so forth.

Alternatively, they can also be purchased from a shop in Motostoke and cost 18,000 Watts. You can even purchase ones from gyms you haven’t yet encountered, too. This shop isn’t exclusive to Motostoke; other shops in other cities also stock uniforms.

How to Change Uniform in Pokemon Sword & Shield

To change your uniform, use the following steps:

Time needed: 1 minute

  1. Visit a clothing shop and enter the changing room

  2. From here you will be able to scroll through the clothes you have purchased. The tab to the far right is your uniforms.

Unfortunately, this will not change your outfit during gym challenges. The white uniform you wear as standard cannot actually be changed in this mode. It’s a frustrating decision by Game Freak but there’s no way around it we’re sorry to say.

So while you can indeed change your uniform to explore and catch new Pokemon, it’s not something you can don while actually competing.
