Pokemon GO: How To Catch Plusle & Minun

The Hoenn region’s dynamic duo of Plusle and Minun made their debut in Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire for the Game Boy Advance. They’re elusive little rodents, but with a little help, you can learn how to catch Plusle and Minun in Pokemon GO.

How To Catch Plusle & Minun in Pokemon GO

It’s very likely that you already have seen and caught plenty of Plusle and Minun in Pokemon GO. But now that the Hoenn Collection Challenge is upon us, you can’t even find one of them. But it wouldn’t exactly be a challenge if you could find them everywhere.

Fortunately, there are a few different ways to catch these two electric mice if no matter if you’re playing outside or currently on lockdown.

Wild Encounter

Just like before this challenge started, you can still find Plusle and Minun just about anywhere in the wild. Of course, they’re much more rare right now and you’d be better off backing on the two following methods.

Field Research

This method still relies on randomness like a wild encounter, but it’s at least slightly more consistent. When you spin a PokeStop, you’ll want to make sure you get a Field Research task that is Catch 11 Pokemon. This one will reward you with either a Plusle or Minun encounter.

Again, getting this research task is random when you spin a PokeStop and on top of that, the Pokemon you encounter is randomized between either Plusle or Minun. While probability would tell you that means you only need to do two of these tasks, the randomness of Pokemon GO often tells you otherwise.

Mareep Incense Day

This is without a doubt the most straightforward way to obtain Plusle and Minun for the Hoenn Collection Challenge. On Jan. 24 there will be an Incense Day event featuring Mareep. During this time, you’ll be able to use Incense to attract Electric-types during certain times of the day (and Dragon-types during others).

From 11 AM to 1 PM and from 2 PM to 4 PM (all local time) on Jan. 24, Incense will attract Plusle and Minun among other Electric-type Pokemon. But just like wild encounters, this is not a sure thing. However, Plusle and Minun should be found more easily with Incense during the specified times.
