How to Get Hitmontop in Pokemon GO

Tyrogue is a baby Pokemon from Generation 2 and was introduced to Pokemon GO. It evolves into Gen 1 Pokemon, Hitmonlee and Hitmonchan, but another evolution, Hitmontop, was also introduced at the same time as the other Gen 2 creatures. However, evolving Tyrogue into any of those three Pokemon isn’t as easy as it is for some of the other Pokemon, since there is three options. Here’s everything you need to know about how to get Hitmontop in Pokemon GO.

First of all, you need to know that you can only get Tyrogue in Pokemon GO from eggs that you hatch because, just like other baby Pokemon, it cannot be caught in the while. Which Hitmon’ variant Tyrogue evolves into is all down to its stats, also know as IVs.

What you need to do is choose your Tyrogue in your Pokemon collection, click Appraise in the bottom right corner of the screen, and see which stat is highest. It needs to be the right combination of stats to be sure to evolve into Hitmontop. Below is what you need to see to evolve into each variant.

  • If Attack is the highest stat, Tyrogue will evolve into Hitmonlee
  • If it’s Defense, Tyrogue will evolve into Hitmonchan
  • If HP is the highest, Tyrogue will evolve into Hitmontop

If two or more of the stats are the same level, according to your team’s leader, you will have an equal chance of it evolving into the Pokemon represented by that stat category. Once you’ve worked out if you’ll be able to evolve your Tyrogue into Hitmontop, simply press evolve and wait for it to appear.

That’s all you need to know about how to get Hitmontop in Pokemon GO. For more on the game, check out our wiki guide.
