How to Fast Travel in Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire
In Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire, you’re going to be tasked with exploring the Deadfire Archipelago in pursuit of the rogue god Eothas. To catch up with Eothas, and discover its true intentions, you’re going to be doing lots and lots of traveling and walking around. You might be wondering, then, if there is a way to fast travel to cut down on the amount of traveling time that you’ll have to do, whether it’s within a city or on the open seas. The answer to that is: sort of.
There’s no fast travel that just lets you go wherever you want instantly, even with a passage of time penalty. You need to physically get yourself where you want to be, all the time. That said, when you’re in a city, you can fast travel (granted, with a passage of time penalty) to any area of the city that you can reach (dependent on the exit you use) and any specific landmarks within that area that you have visited before. To do that, head to an exit (press M to bring up your map and see where they are) and you’ll be brought to a city map that shows you where you can travel to, and if there is an option to go to a landmark you’ve visited before, you can select that too.
On the open seas, you can’t fast travel across the world map. You can set a course, though. What this does is set you on the fastest possible path to an area that you are at least aware of (you don’t necessarily have to have been there before). To set course, be in your ship and check out the top left corner of the screen where it says “Known Locations.” There is a little arrow underneath at the bottom that, when you click it, will show you every location that you can set a course to. Click the little boat icon of the area that you want to travel to, and your ship will set sail, ensuring that you waste as little time and resources traveling as possible. You can take over at any time by right clicking if you want to explore something off course.
Keep in mind that while “fast traveling,” time will pass and events may occur that interrupts your travel. Make sure to save beforehand in case something goes horribly wrong while on your way (which absolutely can happen).
