Outer Worlds: How to Sneak & Stealth Attack

This article is over 5 years old and may contain outdated information

The Outer Worlds is probably one of the most hotly anticipated games of 2019, as it’s a fully-fledged RPG experience from developers Obsidian, who were responsible for Fallout: New Vegas. While you can charge into most combat situations head on, guns blazing, sometimes a more subtle approach might be a better idea. Here’s how to sneak and use stealth attacks in The Outer Worlds.

How to Sneak in Outer Worlds

First things first, to start sneaking around and enter stealth mode, you need to crouch. You can toggle crouch by pressing the circle button (or the B button if you’re on Xbox One).

By doing this, you’ll move around more slowly, but you’ll also be quieter, and this decreases the chances of enemies spotting you straight away.

As you level up, you’ll gain skill points which can be put into your Stealth tree, and that’ll improve your crouching and decrease the likelihood of enemies spotting you. This is by far the best way to get around in a sneaky and stealthy manner, so consider putting points into that tree if this suits your play style.

How to Stealth Attack in Outer Worlds

To perform a stealth attack, all you have to do is crouch and walk up to an enemy’s back, then hit the attack button with R2 or RT. The first hit you land on an enemy who’s unaware of your presence will deal extra damage, and that amount of damage can increase if your Stealth skill has been leveled enough.

This can be very useful in taking out large groups of enemies silently, especially if you don’t have the means to face them all at once.

To sum up, here’s how to stealth and sneak attack in The Outer Worlds:

  1. Press Circle/ B to start crouching.

  2. Sneak up behind an enemy and press R2/RT to perform a sneak attack.

  3. You can put points into your Stealth skill to improve your crouching and damage done with sneak attacks.
