How to Remove Main Character From Your Party in Octopath Traveler

Recommended Videos

Octopath Traveler is a throwback from Square Enix, a pixel art style JRPG that brings in elements of modern games both aesthetically and gameplay-wise. The game features an “HD-2D” art style that combines sprite art with more modern effects on things like water and shading. Fitting of its name, Octopath Traveler lets you choose from eight different characters to start out your journey. Each of these characters have their own starting story and Path Action, such as Primrose and Ophilia’s ability to guide NPCs and summon them as guest characters. When you first boot up the game you’ll be required to choose a main character, and you’ll need to be careful about this choice.

From the get-go, all eight characters will be unlocked; the dancer Primrose, the thief Therion, the scholar Cyrus, the merchant Tressa, the hunter H’aanit, the cleric Ophilia, the apothecary Alfyn, and the warrior Olberic.

Whichever character you choose to start with will essentially be locked into your party for the bulk of your game. After playing through their initial opening chapter you’ll have the chance to travel the world and recruit the other characters into your party. However, that first character will have to remain in your party until you complete their story, which means finishing their chapter 4. You most likely won’t reach this point until near the end of the game, unless you want to do a massive amount of grinding and churn out your main character’s specific chapters. Of course, you can also hop around between different character chapters if you so choose. For a detailed explanation on which character you should start with, check out our handy guide here.
