How to Get the Golden Axe in Octopath Traveler

Like many JRPGs, Octopath Traveler’s combat is all about tactics and stats. How strong your characters are, the weapons they carry, and how you combine all of their abilities together will ultimately determine whether or not you’ll conquer the latest obstacle on your adventure. The Golden Axe is a powerful early game weapon that can really help you out if you’re struggling to get past a particularly tricky boss, or if your characters just aren’t yet strong enough. It’s a nice little buff, essentially, so here’s what you need to know to get the Golden Axe in Octopath Traveler.

First things first, you’re going to need to head to Clearbook. Here, you’ll need Therion and H’aanit or Olberic in your party. When you get here, you’re looking out for the granddaughter that’s standing guard in front of the house. You’ll need to use the Provoke or Challenge character ability on her and use sword attacks to take care of her fairly easily.

Once you’ve done this, you’ll then need to head inside and use the Steal ability on the old man. Of course, by stealing and failing too many times, your reputation will fall in Octopath Traveler, so make sure to nail it the first time. If you do end up having some issue stealing the Golden Axe from the old man, remember you can always restore your reputation in Octopath Traveler by paying the tavern keeper.

Alternatively, if you’re low on funds, you can always just save your game right before you try stealing, and reload your save if you fail. Hey, sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.

And there you the Golden Axe in Octopath Traveler. For more tips, tricks, and information on the game, be sure to check out our comprehensive wiki.
