As you would imagine being a JRPG, combat makes up a huge portion of what you’ll be up to in Ni No Kuni 2. Encounters are split between standard monsters, boss battles, and special tainted monsters – harder versions of standard ones that will prove a much greater challenge. And sometimes, you’ll need a way to escape these tougher encounters. Here’s exactly how to do that.

Although Ni No Kuni 2 uses a real-time combat system, it’s still confined to a specific area both when you encounter enemies during dungeons and on the world map. You might have noticed the blue ring that surrounds the battle area on the ground, and that you can’t simply walk out of this area when you’re engaged in a battle. But if you’ve bitten off more than you can chew in taking on a high-level monster, there is a way to run away. To do so, you’ll simply need to run against the perimeter of the circle until you see an escape icon pop up. The icon will then run-down a timer as you continue to run against it before allowing you to leave. Do keep in mind that certain boss battles in Ni No Kuni 2 won’t allow you to escape. Additionally, you can upgrade your ability to quickly escape battle in the Tactic Tweaker.
