There’s more to New Pokemon Snap than finding a subject for your photography. Some creatures won’t be in an ideal pose or placement for a photograph, and you’ll need to lure them into a better position before letting off a few shots. One way to do this is to sound off with a song they’ll enjoy, and if you don’t know how to play a melody in New Pokemon Snap just yet, worry not. We’re here to help.
Before moving forward though, it’s worth noting that this mechanic isn’t available until you’ve reached the main story mission titled Melody. If you haven’t reached this point yet, focus on story progression and then return to this guide to avoid spoilers.
How to Play a Melody in New Pokemon Snap
Once you’ve completed the Melody main story mission in New Pokemon Snap, you can play a melody whenever you wish by pressing the R button.
This will see your character play a short song that will have different effects on the Pokemon that hear it. Some will be alerted to your position by this, others will be woken up by the sound, and others still may start to act a certain way based on whether they like the music or not.
If these effects sound similar to those caused by the Poké Flute from the original Pokemon Snap, that’s because they are. Melodies serve the same purpose that the Poké Flute did, and cause the same effects in Pokémon who hear them. As such, it’s best to view and use the Melody mechanic in the same way.
That’s all there is to it really. Hopefully this cleared up how to play a Melody in New Pokemon Snap. For more on the game, check out our guide wiki. It has tons of other guides which will help you master every tool in your camera bag.
