How to Cook in Monster Hunter World

Recommended Videos

Being able to cook when you’re out hunting towering creatures in Monster Hunter World isn’t as simple as just plonking some ingredients over a campfire and letting a short animation play out. Instead, you’ll actually have to get the timing just right if you want to get the perfect restoration items from your culinary sessions.

Of course, you’ll actually need some meat to cook on your BBQ Spit first, so make sure you’ve been taking down some of the smaller creatures inhabiting Monster Hunter World’s lush environments before taking out your BBQ Spit. You won’t be able to use it with anything other than meat from dinosaurs. If you don’t have meat from these creatures, you’ll see a big red X over the BBQ Spit. Fish won’t work, either, so don’t go whittling away your hours by the water if you want to cook.

Now that you’ve got your grub, to cook in Monster Hunter World, you’ll first need to equip the BBQ Spit from your inventory and press Square if you’re on PS4 or X if you’re on Xbox One to use it. This will then enable you to cook meat. Now, this is where things get a little trickier. You’ll need to watch the meat as it changes color over the fire and also listen to the music cues to work out whether it’s rare, well-done, or burnt.

Once you’re happy with how you’ve cooked the meat, simply press Circle (PS4) or B (Xbox One) to finish the cooking process. Now, all you need to do is select your finely-cooked meat out of your inventory and you can reap its many benefits.

That’s pretty much all you need to know to cook some tasty meals in Monster Hunter World. For more on the game, be sure to check out our ever-expanding wiki guide.
