Minecraft: How to Tame a Polar Bear (Xbox One, PS4, PC & More)

Minecraft: How to Tame a Polar Bear (Xbox One, PS4, PC & More)

Get yourself a big ol' bear for your arctic strolls!

Minecraft is a game filled with long-distance walks, hostile mobs, icy waters and more. Fortunately, there is a solution to any of the problems those things might bring to the table: polar bears. Polar bears can be ridden, tied to a post for safekeeping, ordered to attack mobs and more, but they won’t do any of that on your behalf until they’re tamed. Here’s how to tame a polar bear in Minecraft on Xbox One, PS4, PC & more.

What better way to take down spiders and other mobs in Minecraft than by having your very own polar bear do it?

Once your new pet is done with the spiders, you can hop on its back and traverse to a new biome. None of this is possible, though, without a friendly and domesticated polar bear.

Fortunately, getting one of those isn’t too difficult. Here’s how it’s done.

Here’s How to Tame a Polar Bear on Xbox One, PS4, PC & More

To tame a Polar Bear, you first need to find one of these animals. They are found in the Snowy Tundra, Snowy Mountains and Ice Spikes Tundra biomes, regular and deep frozen ocean. If you’re playing on the Bedrock versions of the game, you can also find Polar Bears in frozen rivers and legacy frozen ocean biomes.

Once you’ve found one, you’re going to need fish and you’re likely going to need a lot. To get fish, you’ll need a fishing rod, which can be crafted with two sticks and two string. They can also be found in Villages, in random chests, and in castles or underwater ruins.

Fishing can be done anywhere in Minecraft, but you want to try and fish where the water is in direct sunlight or moonlight. If the water isn’t, or if it’s raining, it’ll take longer for you to catch a fish.

Using Salmon to Tame Polar Bears

Polar Bears like Salmon the most, and you can tame one by feeding it fewer Salmon than any other fish. Salmon can be caught in any body of water, or you can kill Polar Bears to get raw Salmon.

With a Salmon or other kind of fish in hand, approach the Polar Bear and feed the fish to it with LT/ L2/ ZL/ RMB.

After so many fish, hearts will appear above the Polar Bear and this lets you know that it is now your pet which means it will fight mobs for you, allow you to ride its back (which is the same as riding a horse) and more.

How to Tame a Polar Bear on PS4

To tame one on PS4, follow the same steps listed above but instead of feeding the fish with LT, you’re going to use L2.

How to Tame a Polar Bear in Minecraft on PC

To tame one on PC, follow the same steps listed in the Xbox One section but instead of feeding the fish with LT, you’re going to right-click on the animal.

How to Tame a Polar Bear on Switch

To tame one on Switch, follow the same steps listed in the Xbox One section but instead of feeding the fish with LT, you’re going to press ZL.

More Information on Minecraft Polar Bears

Polar Bears can be found alone or in a group of up to four. If there are more than two polar bears, it’s important to note that one of those animals will always be a cub and at least one of the other animals will be a parent to that cub.

Naturally, a parent will attack you if you go after the cub so we recommend searching for one that’s alone.

If you’re struggling to find Salmon and can find another Polar Bear, you can kill this to get Raw Salmon or Raw Cod.

That’s it for our guide on how to tame a polar bear in Minecraft on Xbox One, PS4, PC & more.
