Is Liara in Mass Effect Andromeda?

Recommended Videos

Mass Effect Andromeda has finally arrived, marking another entry in BioWare’s acclaimed series of space operas. It’s bringing along a new story, a new protagonist, a new world, and a new cast of characters to fill it. But among all these new faces, young and old, you may wonder if your favorite Asari Liara is joining the gang.

Sadly, Liara is not in Mass Effect Andromeda, and for a couple important reasons. First off, it’s a little physically impossible, as Andromeda takes place in the Andromeda galaxy, which is light years away from our Milky Way galaxy. Travelling there takes upwards of 600 years, though this is a time span Liara would probably survive. She was roughly 100 years old in the original trilogy, and Asari live to around 1000 years of age. So while Liara could technically be alive during the events of the game, she’s probably tons of light years away.

Now, you might be thinking it’s possible for Liara to have joined the Andromeda Initiative and traveled to this world like our protagonists, but there arises the second problem. BioWare has stated they want this game to stand completely apart from the original trilogy, so don’t expect them to drag in former characters. There’ll be new Asari to befriend (or more than befriend) here.
