Choose a Class that Plays To Your Strengths

Mass Effect: Andromeda’s multiplayer portion allows players to choose from a variety of different classes, all with their own areas of specialty. This should go without saying, but you’ll achieve the best results by choosing a class that complements your play style well. For instance, the Engineer and Sentinel classes have great defense, and they excel at holding an area under enemy attack. Think of them as the tank classes. If you like facing enemies upfront, these classes could be great for you.

On the other hand, Infiltrators and Adepts excel at moving around the battlefield quickly and pummeling enemies with powerful abilities and other tactical skills. Adepts boast a high rating for Biotic defense and offense, so make sure to use your abilities whenever they’re off cooldown.

Your Equipment Weight Matters

While this doesn’t really have any bearing on Mass Effect: Andromeda’s single-player campaign, it plays a big part in the multiplayer segment. By default, all of your equipped abilities have a 100% cooldown period. However, as you progress through the waves of enemies and unlock even more weapons and gear for your character, your weight will go up. The more equipment your character is carrying, the heavier he or she will be, and this will have a negative impact on the cooldown periods for your abilities.

If you don’t likely relying on using abilities to push your enemies back (though you really should consider using them more, if that’s the case), this won’t be a huge issue for you. However, abilities can get you out of sticky situations, and you don’t want to be caught surrounded by enemies with no ammo, and no way of escaping quickly. Don’t equip more gear than you have to, and you’ll be fine.

Use the Jump-Jets

Mass Effect Andromeda Multiplayer Tips

The Jump-Jet is a new addition to Mass Effect Andromeda, and it drastically improves the gameplay experience from previous entries in the series. By tapping the X button on PS4 (A on Xbox), you can jump into the air and even hover for a while as you aim down your sights. As the enemy waves in Andromeda can be extremely aggressive, you’ll definitely want to stay on the move as much as you can, especially if you’re not playing a class with high defensive ratings. Staying on the move means that it’ll be harder to hit you, thus improving your chances of survival.

Furthermore, enemies have a tendency to stay behind cover whenever they’re under fire. The Jump-Jet lets you flank them reliably and flush them out quickly. If you’re playing a stealthier class like the Infiltrator, the Jump-Jet can be really useful in allowing you to get the drop on your foes.

Take Out the Weaker Mobs

Every enemy wave in Mass Effect: Andromeda will pit you against weaker, unarmored foes, followed by a few tougher brutes. Don’t panic when this happens – just focus on the weaker ones first. While the weaker foes aren’t much of a threat on their own, they can overwhelm you very easily if you allow yourself to get distracted by the tougher ones. This will lead to a quick death and wipe for you and your teammates.

Instead of trying to take out the stronger foes first, make use of your AoE abilities to take out the small fry. Biotic abilities like Singularity can easily trap mobs of unarmored enemies with no shields, and drain their health as long as the ability is active. While they’re trapped, you’ll have the prime opportunity to pick them off slowly, before turning your attention to the more powerful enemies.
