Marvel’s Avengers is an odd beast, offering both an engrossing story-driven campaign and a diverse array of multiplayer modes to take part in. One thing that hasn’t been made clear about the game, however, has likely left you asking a question many other people want an answer to: Can you play multiplayer in the campaign of Avengers Game?

To put it bluntly, no, there is no multiplayer option for Marvel’s Avengers’ campaign.

Instead, the campaign is purely single-player, with you taking the role of Kamala Khan as she strives to reunite the Avengers and rise up to her role as Ms. Marvel.

You’ll in turn see a set story play out from her perspective, and engage in special missions that help explain the mechanics of the game, introduce the key cast of heroes and provide special set pieces and cinematics.

Though it hasn’t been specified why this is the case, the fact that you’re not always playing with multiple characters in the campaign is likely a big contributor to this design decision. Having heroes running around that should be somewhere else would break some of the story’s immersion, and lessen the impact of their arrival at key points.

Likewise, trying to design set pieces while accounting for several different players’ potential reactions, positioning and so on would be a development nightmare, making the choice to keep the campaign single-player understandable and fairly logical.

Will the Campaign Ever Feature Multiplayer?

As for whether or not Marvel’s Avengers’ campaign might see multiplayer added in at a later time, the chances are very slim.

Aside from the above-stated reasons, the developers of the game, Crystal Dynamics, will likely have their hands full introducing new heroes and story events into the multiplayer modes for several months and years to come.

As such, they likely won’t have the time or resources to implement a multiplayer option into the campaign anytime soon, if ever.
