While there might be more than a few rhythm game experts who have no problem switching between different buttons on the fly in Kingdom Hearts Melody of Memory, you wouldn’t be blamed if you’d prefer a gameplay style that allows you to pay attention to more than the button prompts during levels. That’s why we’re here to walk you through how to activate one button mode in Kingdom Hearts Melody of Memory.
How to Activate One Button Mode in Kingdom Hearts Melody of Memory
Switching the game into One Button mode in Kingdom Hearts Melody of Memory can be tricky if you don’t know where to look.
First, go to the main menu and select the Track Selection button. This will take you to the game’s freeplay mode, where you can select whichever songs you’ve unlocked and play through them at your leisure.
At the top-center of the Track Selection screen, you’ll see a Style tab which you can select by pressing the Triangle Button on PlayStation 4, Y Button on Xbox One or the X Button on the Nintendo Switch.
Press the necessary button, and you’ll be able to select which game mode you want to play the game with: Basic, One Button or Performer.
Move the cursor over One Button mode and select it. Once you do, all of the songs you play in Track Selection will require you to press only one button to register notes as hit.
Does One Button Mode Work in World Tour Mode?
Unfortunately, this setting won’t extend to Kingdom Hearts Melody of Memory’s World Tour Mode. The setting only applies to any tracks you play in the free play mode.
This may come as a bit of a bummer if you’re struggling with the story mode’s stages, but the design choice was likely made to help players figure out how to get a handle on the title’s mechanics.
Plus, you can still switch the difficulty of each stage in World Tour down to whichever level is most manageable for you and still clear the game.
Hopefully this cleared up how to activate One Button mode in Kingdom Hearts Melody of Memory. For more on the game, check out our full review to see whether it’s a worthy representation of the series’ music.
