It Takes Two Co-Op: How to Play Split-Screen, Use Friend Pass & Play Online

With the release of It Takes Two, co-op lovers have yet another great title to dive into. There are puzzles to solve, bosses to beat, and an engrossing story of newlyweds rising to the occasion to enjoy. This will all be a moot point, though, if you don’t know how to play split-screen, use Friend Pass and play online in It Takes Two.

That’s why we’ve taken the time to experiment with each gameplay mode and compiled a guide on how to access all of It Takes Two’s co-op options. Below you’ll find detailed instructions to get you playing the game whether you’re right alongside someone on the couch or engaging in some online shenanigans.

All of It Takes Two’s co-op gameplay modes can be accessed from the main menu.

How to Play Split-Screen

If you wish to play it via split-screen, then you’ll want to choose the Play Locally option from the main menu. You’ll then be able to play the game with you and another player controlling the main characters via controllers linked directly to the console.

Playing It Takes Two in Online Co-Op

Playing online, meanwhile, is just as easy. All you need to do is select the Play Online option from the main menu and then select someone from your friends list.

If they own the game themselves, then all they need to do is accept the request and hop into the game.

Using the It Takes Two Friend Pass

If they don’t yet own a copy of It Takes Two, then you can send them a Friend Pass to allow them to play alongside you free of charge.

As for whether you can use online matchmaking to invite a random player along for the ride, the answer is no. You can only play with someone you’re actively friends with.

Are the Co-Op Modes Cross-Gen and Cross-Play Compatible?

It’s also worth noting that while the game’s multiplayer isn’t cross-platform compatible, It Takes Two does offer cross-gen co-op.

This means that if you’re playing on a PlayStation 5 and want to invite a friend who owns a PlayStation 4, you can do so by following the instructions above.

Hopefully this cleared up how to play split-screen, use Friend Pass and play online in It Takes Two. For more on the game, be sure to check out the articles down below, or visit our wiki.
