Is Divinity Original Sin Coming to PS4?
Update: It has today been confirmed that Divinity Original Sin 2 is heading to PS4 later this year.
Divinity Original Sin 2 is earning critical acclaim, lauded as a complete role-playing package and a must-play title. The game iterates on the highly successful original, boasting turn-based combat, cooperative multiplayer, and a highly interactive world. And just a week after launch, it was already being enjoyed by over 500,000 players.
Fans of the first game might well remember that its popularity later prompted a re-released “Enhanced Edition” which made its way to PS4, having originally only been available on PC. By going multiplatform, a completely new audience of players were exposed to Divinity Original Sin, and many of those players will have been hoping that Divinity Original Sin 2 would be heading to console at launch. Unfortunately, though, that isn’t the case. Based on what we know so far, Divinity Original Sin 2 does not have a planned release date for PS4.
The good news, however, is that the creative director for the game, Swen Vincke, has suggested that any potential console port of Divinity Original Sin 2 would be considered after evaluating its success on PC. And having already recorded such an impressive number of copies sold, the early signs are looking very good. Vincke said in an interview:
“As for the console versions, we’re now focused on delivering our first patch for the PC version, something that is scheduled for this week…After that, it’ll be a long well-deserved break for the team and then we’ll boot up our machines again to work on the next things.”
The first game took twelve months to make the transition from PC to console, which turned out to be an excellent port of the game.
Divinity Original Sin 2 launched on PC Sept. 14.
